The sun was at its zenith in the heart of the wilds, casting a vibrant green glow over the landscape. As I pondered my next move, my mind wandered back to my recent struggles with Commander decks.

I've always been fascinated by the Eldrazi, those ancient and powerful beings from the plane of Zendikar. My latest obsession is building an Eldrazi deck around Goreclaw, Heart of the Wilds. At first glance, it seems like a straightforward choice – Goreclaw discounts basically all creatures and gives them trample, which can be a game-changer with enough big, dumb Eldrazi on the board.

However, my experience has been a mixed bag so far. Sometimes I draw into my draw engines and things go smoothly, but other times... well, let's just say I've spent entire games sitting around doing nothing sensational, or nothing at all. It's frustrating to feel like you're not making progress towards winning.

This uncertainty has led me to question whether I should stick with Goreclaw as my Commander of choice. One issue is that another player in my playgroup already has an Animar deck, and I'm not eager to build the same Commander as someone else. So, I've been torn on what direction to take.

As I reflect on my journey so far, I realize that I've had a few false starts. I initially started with Jodah, but found that his abilities didn't quite mesh with the Eldrazi theme I wanted to pursue. Then, I switched to Kozilek (both of them, actually), thinking that their ability to generate card advantage would be beneficial. However, I eventually decided to move on from both of these Commanders.

Now, I'm exploring Selvala as an alternative. Her ability to create tokens and generate card draw seems like a more straightforward way to build a competitive deck around the Eldrazi. Of course, this is still an experiment in progress, but I'm excited to see where it takes me.

In the end, building a successful Commander deck requires a delicate balance of strategy, creativity, and patience. As I continue to navigate the world of Magic: The Gathering, I'm learning that even when things don't go according to plan, there's always room for growth and improvement.
